Road Safety Week 2013
The Decade of Action was officially proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in March 2010 and the goal is to stabilize and reduce the forecast level of road fatalities around the world by the year 2020.
Backhousia Consulting Services being the preferred service provided for the National Department of Transport set its sights on going to schools to draw attention to the urgent need to better protect children and generate action on the measures needed to do so.
Our School of choice was Sibukosetu Primary in the Township who had a week prior, experienced road tragedy and fatality with one of their very own scholars. In honour of this important week the kids marched to also honour the late Zenani Mandela, the great granddaughter of Nelson Rolihlala Mandela who was killed in a tragic car crash in June of 2010 at the tender age of 13 years. In order to promote awareness among road users, learners where handing out road safety pamphlets to motorist and pedestrians.
